Every race is a good one on Ladies Day here at Cheltenham, but there are two obvious highlights which stand out above the rest.
The second race of Lad’es Day is an absolute cracker. The Grade 1 RSA Chase consists of a mammoth 19 fences, and is a stern test of stamina and concentration for both horse and jockey. It’s a difficult race to win, but with £175,000 on offer, you wouldn’t exactly expect it to be easy.
Easily the standout race of the day, the Queen Mother is one of the best known and best loved steeplechases on the UK calendar. It was given its name in honour of the Queen Mother’s 80th birthday. Needless to say it’s a Grade 1, run over 1m 7f and with 12 fences. A £400,000 prize fund ensures only the very best get to compete in this one.
It’s a race which seems to favour particular trainers, with Nicky Henderson having more than his fair share of winners over recent years. So it’s worth keeping an eye on recent trends when you’re deciding which horse to back in the standout race today.
The highlight of Day 2 is without doubt the Queen Mother Champion Chase, but there are plenty of other great races today too. Here’s the full card.
1.30 – Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle
2.10 – RSA Chase
2.50 – Coral Cup Hurdle (A Handicap Hurdle Race)
3.30 – Queen Mother Champion Chase
4.10 – Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase
